The first series of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League is officially in the books, and the Volts wasted no time making their presence felt. Both league honors — Pitcher of the Series and Player of the Series — went to standout performers wearing Volt purple.

Rachel Garcia was named Pitcher of the Series after delivering a gem in the season debut. The veteran right-hander went the distance in the Volts’ 5-1 win over the Blaze, tossing a complete eight-inning game while allowing just one run on four hits. She struck out eight and looked completely in control from start to finish. If you’ve followed softball at all over the last several years, then you know Rachel Garcia is the real deal — and she just reminded everyone why.

Right alongside her, rookie Danieca Coffey earned Player of the Series honors after an electric opening weekend at the plate. The former LSU star went 4-for-5, good for a .800 average, and an impressive 1.800 OPS. Coffey added two runs scored, a double, and three RBI — putting the league on notice with her bat and her presence.
