Athletes Unlimited Softball League: Day 2

Today marked the second day of the season in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, and the bats came to life in a big way. After an opening day that leaned into the pitchers’ duel narrative, Sunday’s action flipped the script with 22 runs scored across both games — including a 10-run outburst from the Volts.

My play of the day goes to Morgan Zerkle. The Bandits outfielder put her speed and hustle on full display with an inside-the-park home run. After Talons left fielder Sierra Sacco dove and missed the catch, Zerkle kicked it into high gear and never looked back. Even though the Bandits ultimately dropped the game 6-3, Zerkle’s highlight was a reminder of just how exciting this new league can be.

Here are today’s standout performers across multiple stat categories:

Hits Leaders:

  • Kelsey Stewart Hunter (Volts) – 3
  • Sierra Romero (Volts) – 3
  • Danieca Coffey (Volts) – 3
  • Baylee Klingler (Blaze) – 3
  • Tiare Jennings (Volts) – 2
  • Anissa Urtez (Blaze) – 2
  • Taylor Edwards (Blaze) – 2
  • Ana Gold (Blaze) – 2
  • Hannah Flippen (Talons) – 2
  • Sharlize Palacios (Talons) – 2
  • Sierra Sacco (Talons) – 2
  • 18 hitters finished with one hit each

Home Runs:

  • Tori Vidales (Talons) – 1
  • Ali Aguilar (Talons) – 1
  • Morgan Zerkle (Bandits) – 1 (inside-the-park)
  • Bubba Nickles-Camarena (Bandits) – 1

RBIs:

  • Tiare Jennings (Volts) – 3
  • Danieca Coffey (Volts) – 3
  • Anissa Urtez (Blaze) – 2
  • Bubba Nickles-Camarena (Bandits) – 2
  • 12 hitters recorded 1 RBI

Strikeouts (Pitching):

  • Keilani Ricketts (Blaze) – 3
  • Hope Trautwein-Valdespino (Blaze) – 2
  • Montana Fouts (Talons) – 2
  • Raelin Chaffin (Talons) – 2
  • Odicci Alexander (Bandits) – 2
  • Devyn Netz (Bandits) – 2
  • Payton Gottshall (Volts) – 2
  • Taylor McQuillin (Bandits) – 1
  • Mariah Mazon (Volts) – 1

It’s a great feeling having pro-level softball on the screen again, and the Athletes Unlimited Softball League is already showing the kind of excitement and talent fans can rally behind. This league is built for growth — and if today is any sign of what’s to come, fans are in for a fun ride.

The action continues Monday night as the Volts face off with the Blaze at 7:00 PM EDT from Wilkins Stadium in Wichita, Kansas. You can catch the game streaming live on MLB.com.
