Hail State! Lexi Lohnes is a Bulldog

For St. Charles native Lexi Lohnes, the recruiting process was as exciting as it was overwhelming. A left-handed hitter and outfielder/pitcher for St. Louis Chaos National, Lohnes had plenty of attention from top programs around the country. But when she set foot in Starkville, something clicked.

“September 1 was a busy day,” Lohnes said, reflecting on the start of her recruiting journey. “I knew what my best opportunities were going to be, and I was committed to making visits to those and sticking to my process. Every visit made my decision harder. All top-tier schools with incredible offerings to play the highest level of ball. Mississippi State just felt right for me after the first day. Nothing that I can put my finger on, but it really felt right.”

Now, the St. Charles standout has her sights set on the Southeastern Conference, where she’ll get the chance to compete on one of the biggest stages in college softball.

“This will give me the opportunity to play with and against some of the best players in the country,” Lohnes said.

Though she grew up pitching, Lohnes has shifted her focus to the outfield. Still, her unique profile as a lefty at the plate and on defense gives her an edge.

“I have shifted my focus to be an elite outfielder over pitching,” she said. “However, being a lefty/lefty has definitely created opportunities for me to stand out on the defensive and offensive side of the ball.”

That competitive edge was sharpened by her time with St. Louis Chaos National, one of the premier travel programs in the Midwest. For Lohnes, the experience has been about more than just her own growth.

“The staff and organization has put our team in a position to play the best competition in the country,” Lohnes explained. “When that happens, our team gets the exposure to create opportunities for all of my teammates. I am very fortunate to play for such a great club!”

And while her own hard work has carried her far, she’s quick to acknowledge the influence of others who paved the way before her.

“I’ve been able to watch many St. Louis Chaos players go on and represent our club at the highest level,” Lohnes said. “This has always driven me to be a part of that circle of success.”

With her commitment sealed, Lohnes is ready to continue building on that legacy in maroon and white, joining a Mississippi State program that made her feel at home from the very beginning.
