Korbe Otis Shines Bright in AUSL Debut Season

Korbe Otis: Making Her Mark in the AUSL
With the AUSL All-Star Cup rolling on, one player I am keeping my eye on is Korbe Otis. Otis currently sits with 148 total points, but that number means little this early in the competition. With continued high-level performances and a few more team wins, she could easily shoot up the board.
In two games played in Holly Springs, Otis posted an impressive .500/.625/1.000 slash line, with one home run, one RBI, and one walk. In her first season out of the University of Florida, Otis has proven she was more than ready for pro ball.
During the regular season with the Blaze, Otis started and played in all 24 games, slashing .346/.422/.500. She tallied two home runs, eight RBIs, 17 runs scored, and six doubles.
Defensively, Otis has been a star in left field. She finished the season fourth on the Blaze with 48 putouts and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, earning a selection to the AUSL All-Defensive Team. Her playmaking ability in the outfield has been second to none, and she continued that elite defensive presence in the All-Star Cup this past weekend.
None of this should come as a surprise to those who have followed Otis closely. As Florida Head Coach Tim Walton said in a piece written by Blaze beat writer Benjamin Rosenberg, “Korbe is not a talker. She’s a doer. She sets goals, she gets up really early, she takes care of her body, she works hard,” Walton said. “I saw a very mature look to not only softball, but a mature look to life, way beyond her years.” That looks to be Otis in a nutshell, as she has shown that same work ethic very early on in her pro career.
Otis also mentioned in that piece that there has been nothing she has not been able to adjust to in her career. Her mindset and the way she goes about things set her up for a standout professional career. She should be able to do this for a very long time if she chooses.
As the All-Star Cup progresses, I fully expect Otis to keep rising. I am not saying she will win the entire event, but as we look toward the next AUSL season, Korbe Otis is definitely a name to watch.
