The nation’s top-ranked team leaves no doubt, dominating East Coweta 16-1 to capture the GHSA Class 6A crown and cap an undefeated season.
Buford Finishes Perfect 36-0 Season with GHSA 6A State Championship
It was Championship Saturday in Columbus, Georgia, and the Buford Wolves came in with a perfect 35-0 record and the number one ranking in the country. It did not take long to see why this team has been untouchable all year. The Wolves captured the GHSA Class 6A State Championship with a 16-1 win in three innings to close out a flawless 36-0 season.
Caroline Stanton got the start and allowed one run on one hit in the first inning after Payton Wilson led off with a single. A few command issues led to three consecutive walks that brought in a run, but Stanton also recorded two strikeouts in the inning.
Once Buford came to the plate, the bats came alive. With two on and one out, Stanton helped her own cause with an RBI single that scored LSU commit Addie Rackley to tie the game. Liberty commit Ella Pierce Hensley followed with another RBI single to give Buford the lead. LG Goldin then cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to end the first inning with a 5-1 advantage.
In the second inning, Stanton, a Florida commit, retired the side in order with two strikeouts. That set up another big inning for the Wolves offense. Buford added seven more runs in the bottom half to stretch the lead to 9-1.
Janie Goldin started the rally with a walk as East Coweta struggled to find the zone. Georgia Tech commit Summer Castorri brought her home with an RBI double. Addie Rackley followed with a single to put runners on the corners, and Stanton delivered again with a three-run home run to center field. Buford has been dominant all season, and only Wesleyan and Dacula have kept games close.
Buford ended it in the third after another quick inning on defense. Lydia Hamrick doubled to start, and Oklahoma State commit Janie Goldin followed with a bunt single. Goldin has been one of the most consistent players in the 2027 class, showing her ability to get on base in any way possible.
After a Castorri walk, Rackley came through once again with a two-RBI single to make it 11-1. Castorri later scored to make it 12-1, and Hensley brought home Rackley with an RBI single. LG Goldin then sealed it with a three-run home run to walk off the State Championship with a 16-1 victory.
The dominance Buford showed today only confirmed what everyone already knew. This is the best team in the country. The Wolves finish the season 36-0 with 23 shutouts. The most runs they gave up all year came in a 14-6 win over Collins Hill on September 30.
Stanton wraps up her high school career before heading to Florida with a dominant state tournament performance. In three games and 15 innings pitched, she struck out 35 batters and allowed just one run. Stanton also threw a perfect game on Thursday, striking out 20.
Buford’s 2025 season will be remembered as one of the most dominant in Georgia high school softball history and the country.
