Former UCLA and Duke Star Named Assistant Coach at CBU
Thessa Malau’ulu Joins California Baptist Softball Staff
Former UCLA and Duke standout and current Orlando Monarchs softball player Thessa Malau’ulu is the new assistant coach at California Baptist University.
Malau’ulu will serve under head coach Brandon Telesco, who was named to lead the Lancers back in May.
Thessa played the bulk of her collegiate career at UCLA, appearing in 133 games for the Bruins. She then moved on to Duke for her graduate season, where she had the best year of her career. In 2025, she hit .367 with five home runs, 37 RBIs, and 58 runs scored for the Blue Devils. Malau’ulu also showed her extra base ability with eight doubles and four triples.
Defensively, Malau’ulu was the best in the ACC. She earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors and was perfect in conference play with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Following her final college season, Malau’ulu played professionally this summer for the Orlando Monarchs, continuing to showcase her abilities and love for the game.
Now, she takes her next step in softball to the coaching world, joining a CBU program aiming to make a strong push under new leadership.
