Faraimo throws four hitless innings while Flippen, Mulipola, Brady, and Jefferson lead the bats in an 8-1 run-rule victory
No stream for this one, but I kept up with the live stats and have the recap from Team USA’s 8-1 win. Let’s get to it.
Team USA came out ready after their opening 4-0 win over Chinese Taipei, sending Megan Faraimo to the circle against the Netherlands. Faraimo set the tone immediately, striking out two batters in the first and retiring the side without a hit.
The offense wasted no time backing her up. Jayda Coleman led off the bottom of the first with a single and moved to third on Tiare Jennings’ double. A couple of batters later, Hannah Flippen cashed in on a two RBI double to bring them both home. Amanda Lorenz followed with another double to score Flippen, giving USA a quick 3-0 lead and forcing a pitching change to J’dah Girigorie who stopped the rally.
In the second inning, Faraimo issued a walk to Maxime Van Dalen but quickly recovered, retiring the next three hitters in order. She kept rolling in the third, striking out the side to push her total to six through just three innings and still without allowing a hit.
Team USA’s bats stayed hot in the bottom of the third. Dejah Mulipola takes a two RBI double to score Lorenz and Bubba Nickles, stretching the lead to 5-0. In the fourth, Maya Brady crushed a solo home run to center field. Moments later, Flippen went deep to left for her third hit of the game and a 7-0 advantage.
Kelly Maxwell took over in the fifth, allowing the lone Netherlands run on a Damishah Charles RBI single.
In the bottom half, Dejah Mulipola led off with a huge triple to right. Sahvanna Jaquish pinch ran for Mulipola and scored on Janae Jefferson’s walk off RBI single, ending the game 8-1 under international run rule.
It was another dominant showing from and quick work for Team USA. They are definitely off to a strong showing that they are one of the best teams in the world.
Megan Faraimo pitched four hitless innings with six strikeouts. Hannah Flippen went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Dejah Mulipola also went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Janae Jefferson finished 2-for-3 with one RBI, while Maya Brady went 1-for-3 with a home run and one RBI.
Team USA improves to 2-0 in World Games play and will face China tonight at 1:00 AM ET / 12:00 AM CT.
