It’s always good to trend up..
The Talons are not peaking. They are just building consistency and trending in the right direction.
Coming out of the break with back to back wins, the Talons are now 11 and 3 and hold a two game lead on the Bandits. When you watch them play, you see the will to win. You see the will to be great in every aspect of the game.
If you are looking for the most complete team in the league right now, I believe it is the Talons. They have picked up right where they left off over two weeks ago in Norman. There was no lag, no rust, just more of the same high level execution.
Consistency is the word that fits this group. Caroline Jacobsen is becoming one of the most reliable bats in the AUSL. Tonight she went 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. In one at bat against Payton Gottshall, Jacobsen battled through a 13 pitch sequence full of foul balls before finally ripping an RBI double. Good luck wearing her down.
On the season, Jacobsen is slashing .419/.500/.628 with one home run, 11 RBIs, and nine runs scored.
This Talons team just knows how to win. They are talented, yes, but more than that, they are focused. I asked Head Coach Howard Dobson after the game whether he felt like this team was peaking or still building. True to form, Coach Dobson gave a thoughtful answer with a lot of insight, but the tone said it all. They are not done yet.
Georgina Corrick has quietly become one of the top arms in the AUSL. Now 4 and 0 on the season, she added another complete game shutout to her resume against the Volts. That is two complete shutouts since joining the Talons.
Corrick has the will and the drive to do what she is able to do at a high level. Against the Volts, she pitched a full seven innings, giving up only three hits while striking out five. The Volts were not up to her chess game, as she did a tremendous job of mixing pitches and keeping them off balance.
Just listening to her talk blew me away. She knows exactly what she is doing out there. Trying to figure her out may be a very difficult thing to do for opposing hitters.
Teams go through ups and downs in a season, but it has been hard to find much of the downs for the Talons. This season is moving right along and the first series is about wrapped up. With the way this team works and pushes each other, watch out. They have not even played their best ball yet.
