Basinger Honored with Top Clemson Athletic Award
Reese Basinger’s Breakout Year at Clemson Ends with Top Department Honor
Former Clemson pitcher Reese Basinger continues to stack accolades after just one year in orange and purple. Today, the Clemson Athletic Department announced its 2024-2025 Department Awards, and Basinger was named IPTAY Athlete of the Year.
The IPTAY Athlete of the Year is presented annually to a student-athlete who excels both athletically and academically. Basinger embodied that standard during her lone season at Clemson.
After transferring from Winthrop, Basinger quickly established herself as the ace of the Tigers’ staff. She posted an 18-6 record with a 2.94 ERA and recorded 121 strikeouts across 178.1 innings pitched. Her dominance earned her multiple honors, including ACC Pitcher of the Year, First-Team All-ACC, and First-Team All-Region.

She was equally impressive off the field. Basinger was named a third-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators, 2025 ACC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was recognized as an NFCA All-America Scholar.
Before arriving in Tigertown, Basinger spent three years at Winthrop. Her impact at Clemson, though brief, was undeniable as she helped lead the Tigers to an ACC Championship and a Super Regional appearance.
