“Everyone was very genuine and supportive within the team and coaching staff, but even in the surrounding community.” – Jackie Knol
Jackie Knol is a Spartan
For Nation Ford High School’s Jackie Knol, the recruiting process was about more than just finding a softball program, it was about finding a place that felt like home. And when the rising junior from Fort Mill, South Carolina, stepped onto the campus at UNC Greensboro, everything clicked.
“The atmosphere around UNCG really stood out to me,” Knol said. “Everyone was very genuine and supportive within the team and coaching staff, but even in the surrounding community. I could tell it was a place that would allow me to get better every day and be pushed, but also have a great group of people to go through life with.”
Knol, a versatile member of the Class of 2027, has made a name for herself as a reliable corner infielder and catcher. Between holding down third base, first base, or working behind the plate, she’s shown the kind of adaptability that coaches love and the Spartans took notice early on.
Building a Connection
For Jackie Knol, a huge part of her decision came down to the relationship she built with Head Coach Janelle Breneman and the UNCG coaching staff. From the very beginning, their approach made a lasting impression.
“Coach Breneman and her staff were a large factor in my commitment and process,” Knol said. “They really showed they cared about me more than just as an athlete within their program even before my commitment. They all did a great job at making me feel welcomed on my visit and keeping regular communication with me throughout the process.”
That sense of genuine care and connection helped solidify what Knol already felt in her heart, that Greensboro was the perfect fit for her both on and off the field.
A Unique Set of Inspirations
When it comes to influences, Knol’s list is anything but typical. While many softball players grow up watching stars of the sport, Knol found inspiration in some of the biggest names in other arenas.
“This question has always been interesting to me,” she said. “I grew up mostly watching baseball and some basketball, so many of my inspirations weren’t in the softball scene like Aaron Judge, Kobe Bryant, and Steph Curry. However, as I began watching softball, Amanda Chidester is one player I typically followed, specifically her hitting style. Now I also look up to Aubrey Monroe, especially with how she has continued to share the game with younger generations through camps and clinics. Coaching has always been something I would like to pursue at some level.”
That balance of passion, competitiveness, and mentorship reflects Jackie Knol’s approach to the game, one that blends power and precision with a team-first mindset.
The Team NC Bowman Family
Knol also credits much of her development to her time with Team NC Bowman, one of the top travel programs in the region. Competing at a national level has given her a taste of the challenges and rewards that come with elite competition.
“My travel team, Team NC Bowman, is truly like my family,” Knol said. “They push me to be my best every day but are also the first people there for me whenever I need them. I’m very fortunate to have gotten the experience to play in national tournaments among the top teams in the country. This has really pushed me to grow, preparing me mentally and physically to play at the next level.”
Those experiences, the grind of long weekends, the pressure of big moments, and the bond of teammates have all molded Knol into the player UNCG is getting.
Looking Ahead to Greensboro
As she looks toward her future in blue and gold, Jackie Knol is eager for what’s ahead, both on the field and in the classroom.
“I’m really looking forward to the new experiences that come along with college athletics,” she said. “I’m excited to get to meet a new team of girls and work with new coaches. Along with being able to live in such a beautiful area to further my education.”
And when it comes to Spartan fans, Knol’s message is simple and full of excitement for what’s to come.
“UNCG softball has a great reputation, and I’m excited to contribute to the team atmosphere,” Knol said. “I can’t wait to be in blue and gold. Let’s go!”
With her work ethic, leadership, and love for the game, Jackie Knol is ready to make her mark, and Spartan fans will be more than ready to cheer her on when she finally steps onto the field in Greensboro.
