Halls High standout Harper Bales makes her commitment to Chattanooga as she continues to grow her game and lead the Red Devils

Class of 2027 Halls Red Devils Standout Harper Bales Commits to Chattanooga
Harper Bales, a class of 2027 player from Halls High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, recently committed to play softball at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Bales has already put together a strong high school career and continues to build momentum toward the next level.
In two seasons, she has slashed .394/.464/.560 with three home runs, 25 doubles, three triples, 66 RBIs, and 68 runs scored across 81 games. She has also added 20 stolen bases during that stretch. Stats via MaxPreps.
I caught up with Bales to talk about her commitment. Her older sister, Emery Bales, is a freshman at Chattanooga now, and Harper admitted Emery played a big role in her decision. The sisters had talked often about the idea of playing together again after sharing the field at Halls High School. Still, Harper explained that there were more reasons behind her choice.
“Emery was a big part in my decision in going there, but I have been around the school for years and I love the program, love all of the coaches, and the facilities are like next level there,” said Bales.
She added, “We really loved the opportunity getting to play here at Halls together, and it’s really cool to be able to play with your sister. We talked about it a lot, especially when my recruitment journey started and she was pulling for me to go there too.”
The Chattanooga Mocs are one of the premier programs in the Southern Conference and a well respected mid major program in the country. Longtime head coach Frank Reed is entering his 25th season leading the Mocs. Last year, his team finished 41-15 and captured the regular season Southern Conference Championship.
Facilities were another factor that helped sway Harper’s decision. Chattanooga has long been known for Frost Stadium, which can hold 3,521 fans including standing room. The program also has an indoor facility available for inside training and development.
Development has been key for Harper Bales, and she credits both travel ball and high school ball for her preparation. She plays with Fury Platinum X Pickett at the travel level and for Coach Bryan Gordon at Halls, both of which have helped shape her as a player.
“The travel ball experience is next level. I think it really prepares you to go into college. Seeing that level of competition all the time really gets you prepared for the next level,” said Bales.
As for Halls High, Harper made it clear how much she values her time there. She praised Coach Gordon for constantly pushing her and preparing her for what is ahead.
There is still a good couple of years before Harper can join the Mocs, so I asked her about her goals and outlook for Halls this coming season. The Red Devils are a respected program in Tennessee, but they are still chasing that elusive state title. Harper hopes to help bring that championship home while also keeping the game fun for herself and her teammates.
“We are just looking to have fun and win, make it to state, and have a good team atmosphere,” said Harper Bales.
With two strong seasons already behind her and plenty of growth still ahead, Harper Bales is consistently working and preparing for the next level. Her commitment to Chattanooga not only keeps her close to family but also gives her the chance to compete for one of the premier programs in the Southern Conference.
Thank you Harper, for taking the time to speak on your exciting journey ahead.
