Cal Softball and Chelsea Spencer Parts Ways After Five Seasons

Earlier today, Chelsea Spencer officially stepped down as the head coach of the Cal Golden Bears softball program. Spencer, who played for Cal from 2002 to 2005 and helped lead the Bears to a National Championship in 2002, has spent the last five seasons at the helm of her alma mater.
Cal Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton shared the news in a morning statement and added, “We thank Chelsea for all of her contributions to Cal and wish her the best of luck for the future.”
Spencer finished her coaching tenure with a 153-108-2 record. Under her leadership, Cal made three NCAA Tournament appearances and reached the regional final twice.
Assistant coach Jen Deering has been named interim head coach while the search for Spencer’s replacement begins.
