NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll

The Buford Wolves (27-0) enter tonight’s matchup against the Eastside Eagles of Covington, Georgia, in a clash of two undefeated programs. Ranked No. 1 in the NFCA High School Top 25 Coaches Poll, the Wolves have been dominant all season and aim to keep their perfect record intact as postseason play approaches. Below is the official media release from Dave Hines, and the NFCA.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Buford outscored its opponents 31-0 to remain perfect and atop the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a fourth straight week.

The (27-0) Wolves rolled past Mountain View, 16-0 on Tuesday, and Cherokee Bluff, 15-0 on Wednesday, and have now won 49 of their last 51 games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, a loss to a team ranked below them dropped Lincoln Southwest (29-3) to the third spot this week, behind Iowa 2A state titlist Van Meter (34-2), which moved up to No. 2. The Silver Hawks fell to No. 7 Millard North, 7-6 in eight innings last Thursday, before rebounding to win its next four contests by a combined 41-0 margin.

East Coweta (24-3), the team that dealt Buford its last loss in the 2024 state 6A final, won all four of its games to remain fourth again this week. Dale (20-2), Broomfield (18-2) and Millard North (31-4) are also unchanged in places 5-7.

University, the winner of 10 straight and fresh off an 8-7 extra-inning victory over defending Colorado state champion Eaton — who beat the (20-2) Bulldogs for last year’s Class 3A state title — enters the rankings for the first time this season at No. 8. Wesleyan (24-3) and Choctaw (27-3) won three games apiece, but slid down one place each this week to make room for University and round out the revised top 10.

Fellow Colorado school Columbine (16-5) was the poll’s biggest mover, gaining four spots to No. 18 following lopsided wins over Chatfield and Ralston Valley.

State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Summer/Fall High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule. Five states — Colorado, Georgia, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri — play a fall fastpitch schedule, while Iowa recently completed its summer season.
