Devyn Netz Heads to Blaze, Danielle Gibson Whorton Joins Bandits in Impactful Midseason Swap
Blaze & Bandits Swap Key Players
The Blaze received a two-way player who adds another arm in the circle when needed, while the Bandits gained more offensive production. Today, the Bandits and Blaze completed a midseason trade.
The Blaze acquired two-way player Devyn Netz, and in return, the Bandits received Danielle Gibson Whorton.
The Blaze have struggled significantly in the circle this season. They currently hold the league’s worst ERA at 7.40, allowing 104 earned runs. Walks have been a major issue, with 52 issued on the year along with 23 home runs allowed. While adding Netz will not immediately solve all of their pitching woes, it does provide much-needed depth.
So far this season, Devyn Netz has thrown only 11 innings with a 1-2 record and a 5.09 ERA. That’s a small sample size, so it’s hard to read too much into those numbers. At the plate, she’s batting .273 with two home runs. When not in the circle, Netz typically plays first base, which makes her a natural replacement for Gibson Whorton in the Blaze lineup.
Danielle Gibson Whorton, who heads to the Bandits, started all 15 games at first base for the Blaze. She’s been a consistent offensive presence, hitting .340 with two home runs, 15 RBIs, and a pair of doubles.
Both teams received pieces that will help them moving forward. The Bandits continue their battle with the Talons for the top spot in the league and are set to face them tonight in Omaha, Nebraska at 7 PM EDT on ESPNU. The Blaze and Volts will look to build momentum in their matchup tonight at 10 PM EDT on MLB.com.
