The All-Star Cup Champion Will Be Crowned Today
Championship Day Has Arrived
The end is here, as today marks the AUSL All-Star Cup Championship Day. What has been an exciting and successful summer for the Athletes Unlimited Softball League will conclude with a champion crowned for the All-Star Cup.
Kayla Kowalik has been in the lead for a while, but her command of the leaderboard took a hit yesterday in the 6 to 1 loss to Team Garcia. She enters today with 1540 points. Rachel Garcia stands 186 points back with 1354, while Danieca Coffey is third with 1120 and Keilani Ricketts sits in fourth at 1056.
Yesterday’s big story was the outstanding game from Rachel Garcia. She recorded two hits, including a double and a home run, while throwing 4.2 innings of relief. That effort earned her 296 leaderboard points, the second-highest single-game total in AUSL history.
For Kowalik, Saturday marked the first time in seven games that she has lost as a captain. Her 6-0 start tied for the second-best stretch ever in the All-Star Cup.
Today’s action begins at 2:30 PM EDT with Team Ricketts facing Team Garcia on ESPN+. Shortly after, Team Coffel will take on Team Kowalik in a game televised on ESPNU.
As the curtain falls on this summer of Athletes Unlimited Softball, the question is simple. What are your thoughts on the format and the competition? For me, while this event has been a lot of fun, you cannot beat the regular season model.
With the upcoming expansion and permanent team cities, it feels like that is what most fans are looking forward to, and I am right there with them.
