Scenic City Summer Work Continues in Year Three

Chattanooga, Tennessee – The Scenic City Collegiate League is now in its third year and remains a steady presence in the American Collegiate League. Whether players are looking to develop certain parts of their game, get live reps in different positions, or boost their profile in the transfer portal, this league continues to serve its purpose.

I had a chance to speak with Addison Lund yesterday evening. Lund is currently in the transfer portal out of Charlotte and may be nearing a decision on her next destination. When asked about her experience this summer, she said,
“It’s a fun league with a bunch of talent and it is run really well.”

Addison Lund Sharpening Tools Behind the Plate and in Box

Lund has primarily played third base in her career, with some time behind the plate. This summer has given her the opportunity to work on both sides of the game, and she has made clear progress in the box and behind it.

“I’ve been more consistent and am hitting home runs again,” said Lund about her offensive development.

She also spoke on her improvement at catcher,
“Just the additional reps have helped me become a better catcher. When I was at Charlotte, my catching coach was Paige Halstead, the former UCLA catcher, and she really helped develop me. This past season was the first time I had been used full time behind the plate. It’s been a learning process but this summer has been invaluable.”

Lund also praised the league’s balance and competitiveness.
“I love that there isn’t just one team that is super stacked. Each team has their strengths and every game is very competitive.”

Live Action at the Park

Today I had the chance to check out the Scenic City League for the first time this summer and saw a mix of hungry players competing at a high level. A few have already locked in new homes through the portal, while others are still figuring out their next move.

Pearl Davis Solid for the Smokies

Pearl Davis threw a complete game gem, tossing 106 pitches with one unearned run, one walk, and one strikeout as the Smokies took down the Bandits, 5-1.

Davis, a Chattanooga State transfer, is headed to Cumberland University and shared her appreciation for the league experience.
“I’ve had an amazing experience this summer, and I am so thankful these people were put into my life.”

Tatum McCool Produces at the Plate

Tatum McCool had a big day, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored for the Smokies. McCool is a rising redshirt sophomore at Jacksonville University and continues to show promise this summer.

Shelby Allen Stays Hot

Shelby Allen is putting up big numbers this summer, slashing .438/.472/.458 with 21 hits, seven RBIs, and 14 runs scored. Today she stayed hot, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs.

Allen, a Southern Miss transfer, has committed to Austin Peay.

Bandits Get Production from Holt, Wagoner, and Faires

Jaycee Holt was the lone run for the Bandits today. Holt is a solid player from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She has a lot of speed on the bases and can cover a ton of ground in left field.

This summer, Holt is hitting .408/.442/.408 with 20 hits, 10 RBIs, and 15 runs scored.

Dallas Wagoner of Newberry College and Abby Faires from Trevecca Nazarene also had strong days for the Bandits, each going 2-for-3.

Laney Dominates as Smoky Mountain Rain Wins 7-0

The Smoky Mountain Rain, led by North Texas Pitching Coach McKenzie Onyango, broke things open late against the Nooga Choo-Choos, but the game was a tight battle early between pitchers Olivia Laney and Cassidy Ross.

Ross gave the Choo-Choos four quality innings, allowing just one run on three hits.

Laney was in full command from the start, tossing a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts and just two hits allowed in seven innings of work. The Smoky Mountain Rain walked away with a 7-0 victory.

Offensive Leaders in the Win

Deana Cunningham helped spark the offense, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Lauren Jamerson matched that line, adding two more runs for the Smoky Mountain Rain.
