Malloree Harr Keeps it Simple

For some players, it takes a minute to get settled in when moving to a different level, but for Malloree Harr, things have hardly ever been normal. When you play up for a US Junior Women’s National team, moving from middle school to high school probably will not be that difficult.

Of course her first week has proven that so far. She is wired the right way, and I can’t think of a simpler way to say it.

Harr, who is an eighth grader at Boyd Buchanan School in Chattanooga, decided to go ahead and play up this spring for the high school team, after competing in the middle school division back in the fall.

Her first seven games played have only proved what I felt would be the case with her. She already has a no-hitter recorded in the circle and three home runs including a grand slam. Harr is a special player, and this class of 2030 two-way player doesn’t think about the moment and takes her game seriously but also has fun with it.

My @BBSBucs are 2-0 on day one of the CCS invitational. Had a great day at the plate with HS home run #2, going 5 for 7 with 3 RBI. Pitched 2 innings of relief with 2k’s and no hits to help secure the win in game 1. Let’s go Bucs!#classof2030@d1vision_sb @D1V16uplatinum… pic.twitter.com/AfKFizmgbv

In speaking with Malloree last night, I just wanted to know what she thought about it all in her first week of high school ball. Her thoughts were the direct reflection of her even-keeled and hardworking nature.

“Be in the moment, but don’t make the moment too big. I worked hard over the winter to prepare for the high school season. I just wanted to come into the season to contribute where I can and grow as a player,” said Harr.

“I love my teammates and coaches and how they support me and have my back. There is no pressure when all you’re doing is having fun playing the sport you love.”

Game 2 into my highschool season with @BBSBucs. Entered to pitch in the bottom of the 5th with bases loaded and no outs against Walker Valley (25’ state champs), locked it down with 2 k’s. All of her hard work is already paying off. Just seven games in, Harr is slashing .600/.655/1.160 with three home runs and 11 RBI.

What is even more impressive is her performance in the circle. Harr was dominant in 18 innings of work. She struck out 26 batters to one walk, allowed four earned runs with an ERA of 1.55, and posted four wins and one save.

Against the defending TSSAA Class 4A state champion Walker Valley, Harr was clutch with no pressure felt. Entering the game in the bottom of the fifth with bases loaded and no outs, she shut down the Lady Mustangs, leaving everyone stranded, and struck out two in the inning.

Then in the top of the sixth, she took advantage of a bases-loaded situation with the bat and knocked a grand slam, her first high school homer, to give Boyd Buchanan a 9-5 lead.

Malloree Harr makes playing this sport look easy, and she has been presented with a great gift of turning hard work into great results on the field. She is on track to do great things at Boyd-Buchanan and she is just getting started.
