Jamestown Jimmies Roll On at Space Coast Spring Games

When it’s your night, it is your night. University of Jamestown Jimmies softball had an offensive explosion against the Salem University Tigers in the nightcap at the Space Coast Spring Games. The Jimmies took this one 15-1 in a five-inning run rule, and Hope Ransome pitched four shutdown innings of work.

Jamestown jumped out to a 4-0 lead right off the bat, as Salem’s Kendall Lemley just couldn’t get the Jimmies off the field, and some of that was due to miscues. Maddie Spaeth recorded the first RBI single of the game, bringing in Trinity Gregg. After Spaeth stole second, Lemley issued a walk and then a passed ball allowed the runners to advance.

After Hope Ransome lined out for the second out, you thought they would get off the field, but another walk was issued to load the bases. That set the green light for Kylie Yanzuk, and she took the first pitch for a two-RBI single to make it 3-0. Tori Olson finished the scoring for the Jimmies by coming in on another passed ball.

For Salem, their one run of the game was unearned as Bella Ortiz scored off an error with Kylie Cook reaching.

While Jamestown would run on to win this one in great fashion, I would like to point out that Kendall Lemley pitched the whole five innings for Salem. That may not sound like a big deal, but she threw 142 pitches total in the game. That is a massive load and just shows how many pitches it took to get off the field against this Jamestown team.

Jamestown had five players total that scored two runs each: Trinity Gregg, Jorja Hainsworth, Sam Vasquez, Hope Ransome, and Tori Olson. Kylie Yanzuk and Natalie Draper knocked in three RBI apiece.

With all the runs scored, you would think there would possibly be multiple homers, but there was only one. Hainsworth took a solo shot in the top of the fifth to bring the score to 12-1. Jamestown really just passed the bat with 12 hits and took what they were given tonight, as Salem committed four errors in this one that led to six unearned runs.

Davenport Panthers Rally From Four-Run Deficit for Walk-Off 5-4 Win Over Concordia-St. Paul in Space Coast Spring Games

Salem finished the day 0-2 in the Space Coast Spring Games after falling to University of Bridgeport earlier, 7-2. They will return to action Saturday against St. Cloud State University.

As for the Jamestown Jimmies, they won both games today after defeating Holy Family University 3-1 earlier. The Jimmies have been doing great so far this week at the Space Coast Spring Games. They have taken seven out of eight games in this event and will finish up Friday with a doubleheader against Ursuline College and Walsh University (Ohio).
