Wells, a 6-foot senior out of Coahoma High School in Coahoma, Texas, delivered one of the most dominant two-way seasons the state has ever seen. She led the Coahoma Bulldogs to a 35-1 record and the Texas Division II 3A State Championship, while going 22-1 in the circle with a 0.44 ERA.

She struck out 258 batters over 127.2 innings pitched, recording 67 percent of her outs via strikeout. Her arsenal overwhelmed opposing lineups all season—she notched 15 shutouts across 23 starts, including a no-hitter and two perfect games.

Wells was just as lethal at the plate. She hit .602 with 75 RBI and crushed a Texas single-season record 31 home runs, bringing her career total to a state-record 86. Of her 108 at-bats, 48 went for extra bases. She posted a 1.639 slugging percentage, a 2.287 OPS, and an isolated power figure of 1.037, per Gatorade’s release.

A historic season on both sides of the ball, as well as her off the field outstanding character, made the choice clear. Wells isn’t just a dominant softball player, she is a well rounded person. The future Texas Longhorn heads to Austin as one of the most decorated players in state history and now, the best high school softball player in the nation.
