“Softball has taught me more than just the game, it’s taught me how to believe in myself.”
Cloe Morgan’s Love for the Game
Cloe Morgan has been around softball for as long as she can remember. It has become the thing that she goes to for peace and to also get through some of her toughest days in life. The game of softball is special, and Morgan feels that.
“I’ve been playing softball since coach pitch,” Morgan said. “Softball is very special to me. If I have a bad day, then going to hit or doing simple catching drills makes my day better.”
Memories That Last Forever
Playing for Bruceton Central has given her a true sense of what a team should feel like. There’s nothing like a close knit team. That makes playing together click in a special way, and the chemistry is unmatched.
“I don’t think I’ve ever played for a better team,” Cloe Morgan said. “Playing on Bruceton has showed me what a real team plays like. We all lock in when it’s practice and game time, but we always make sure to have fun.”
Her first high school home run stands out as one of her favorite memories.
“One very memorable experience was when I hit my first homerun in high school my eighth grade year,” Morgan said. “Everyone came running out of the dugout screaming for me. Watching the video always reminds me of the amazing team I have.”
Another special moment was playing in the state championship. Seeing the support from the small town is one thing that stood out to Cloe Morgan. I will say there is nothing like small town support in high school sports. I have seen it many times myself.
“We didn’t win, but we fought hard to be there,” Morgan said. “A lot of people put so much money and faith in us to be there. So when we made it to state, our stands were full. I’ll never forget that moment.”
Pushing Through the Struggles
The game has not been without challenges. Like anything in life that is worth doing, struggles will come. It is how you push through that tells the story.
“I’ve had many struggles with softball but I always found a way through it,” Morgan said. “Mentally I wanted to quit, and thought I wasn’t good enough and just wanted to give up. I got through those because I always had my dad to reassure me and help me know my worth and the talent I have.”
She also credits her hitting lessons for sharpening her skills. Extra work outside of the practice and game field shows the amount of time and dedication that athletes are willing to put into it all.
“My coach likes to go hard on me to push me,” Morgan said. “Him going hard on me pushes me to get better and it shows. My hitting has improved so much in the years.”
Balance in the Classroom
Morgan is also thoughtful about her academics.
“I am still a sophomore, so I am trying to save all my hard classes for my junior year,” she said. “For now I’m trying to take all my more simple classes this year so I can focus more on softball. Bruceton teachers encourage you to do your best in everything.”
Inspiration at Home
When asked about her biggest inspiration, Cloe points to her dad. I love hearing a kid point to their parents. It lets me know that they are being raised the right way and have a loving support system where it should be, at home.
“My dad is my biggest inspiration,” Morgan said. “He is a super hard worker, and he’s literally intelligent. Many people come up to me and say ‘Your dad’s the smartest man I know.’ Hearing this lights a fire inside me, and inspires me to be just like him. He wakes up every morning at 4 a.m. to head to work and comes home around 4-5 p.m. and doesn’t show how tired he is. He still makes time to spend time with me and our whole family. I would love to be just like him.”
A New Chapter with Southern Force
Cloe has also found a new travel team where she feels completely at home. All travel teams and organizations aren’t created the same, in more ways than one. There should be no place for toxic environments and toxic coaches. Morgan credits Southern Force, for being such a positive experience.
“I just joined the team and I absolutely love it,” Morgan said. “Southern Force is such an amazing organization. They are by far the most welcoming team I’ve ever been on. I believe I’ve found my forever team. I’ve learned over the years what a toxic coach and toxic team are. I’ve learned the difference between a team that isn’t good for you vs. a team that is good for you. And Southern Force is the team for me.”
Eyes on the Future
Cloe has clear goals as she looks ahead in her career. She will also take what all she has learned and built within herself to chase those goals.
“My goal for these next couple years is to find the college I want to call my forever team,” Morgan said. “I will continue to work harder and harder to get recruited to my dream school. Softball has taught me so much more than just how to play the game. It’s taught me how to be mentally tough, how to make deep connections with amazing teammates, and how to believe in myself.”
